A toddler mauled by 7 dogs passed away on Wednesday. The 21-month-old, whose name has not been released, was attacked by 7 pit bulls in the backyard of her parents' home in Bryan County. The seven dogs, all pit bulls and pit bull mixes, were euthanized by Bryan Country Animal Control following the attack.

The attack took place around dusk on Wednesday. The International Business Times reports that the grandmother of the toddler mauled by 7 dogs was asleep in the house when she was woken up by a commotion outside. When she looked out the window, she saw the toddler being attacked.

"[The toddler] habitually played with the dogs, all of them," Sheriff Clyde Smith said. "But they dragged her all over the yard. Something turned them on her. We don't know what."

All it takes is for one of them to attack, the others will revert to pack mentality. So Grandma was babysitting and decided to take a nap, she should be up on charges.

I dunno if I'd blame it all on Grandma. A toddler living in a home with seven pit bulls already has the deck stacked against her.

I am, by no means, a dog expert. It just seems to me that most of these dog attacks involve “outside” dogs. Because they’re isolated outside, they don’t get much human interaction and, thus, are never properly socialized. If the grandma had seven dogs, it’s a good bet they were kept outside and developed a pack mentality.

Letting a 21 mo. old in a yard with ANY 7 dogs is DANGEROUS, let alone KILLER DOGS! CHARGES need to be brought on ALL ADULTS INVOLVED!!

You’re so right! No matter how much of a sap they might be,they’re still dogs. One little wrong sounding yip could set them off.Seven of them is asking for trouble. You’d think someone that owned seven dogs would have some basic clue and that poor baby paid a terrible price.

Translation: not pit bulls.

Why anyone needs 7 dogs and leaves them to babysit toddlers is beyond me. The neighbors must have loved it.

Awful when this happens regardless of the type of dog.

fyi, Image included with this story is a stock photo of some dog.
It is not one the dogs involved in the attack.
Original source as best I can tell is...

it’s a good bet they were kept outside and developed a pack mentality.

'a mother dog and six offspring from a litter she had about 16 months ago, the sheriff said.'

'The dogs had their own doggie doors that let them come in and out of the house as they pleased.'

'According to officials, the family had nine dogs in total, and the child often played with all of them'

Can you even own seven dogs in the city without being considered an animal border?

Grandma should not have decided to take a nap while a less than two year old ran lose. Never turn your back on a child that age.

Prayers for the child.

I have two sister Labradoodles, three years old. Each is sweet, loving and playful. They are inside dogs, with a fenced yard. Daily my hubby takes them out the back gate to run in the woods. If he’s there, they stay near him. One on her own out in the front yard, no problem. Both out...pack mentality will hit and I’m very very careful not to let that happen. They’ve never hurt anyone or any other animal, but why take the chance?
