First came the bangs. Then a comedy sketch on NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Next, her unexpected presentation of the Oscar for Best Picture. Now, in April, she graces the cover of Vogue magazine, for the second time.
Do we need any more confirmation of Michelle Obama’s apotheosis?
Some of the intense interest in the first lady may be owing to the fact that she is now inviting it. The second term of her husband’s presidency gives her increased freedom to be herself, notes Jennifer Lawless, director of the Women & Politics Institute at American University in Washington, D.C. “She knows that she never has to campaign for her husband again. Nothing she does can be fodder for his opponents,” Lawless explains in a telephone interview.
There is little question that Michelle Obama has not only shrewdly leveraged the power of the first-lady role – “a subtle part of the presidency,” as Carl Sferrazza Anthony, one of several first-lady scholars in the U.S., told me on the phone – she has also struck a chord in the way that she has confidently picked her course through the battlefield of modern womanhood.
First ladies are often a lightning rod for cultural angst about the choices women have and are intensely scrutinized for the ones they make. But in her choice of fashion, Michelle Obama is an exemplar of how many modern women think and behave.....

Here’s what she’s taught me.....that if you are a black Democrat you can get by with murder, spend OTHER PEOPLE’S MONEY like crazy, dress like a hootchi and make other liberals drool with love because you’ve stuck your finger in decent people’s eyes! Get even with Whitey and do whatever you want....on someone else’s dime!!
In the South, this woman would be labeled “coarse.” She has no accomplishments except staying out of jail.
Michelle is Aunt Esther with a larger posterior.
I don’t think she is confidently picking her course at all.
I think her perpetual frown is the result of her life not working out the way she planned at all. Even lavish vacations aren’t filing the void.
All this reminds me of is that there are a lot of leftists in the media who want to raise Michelle Obama to some special status.
Who has intense interest in Moochelle other than the fawning media?
Oh my God, she looks like some freakish alien about to spawn...
She can teach us about why when trailer trash hits the lottery, it becomes broke again in short order...
I have to ask....is the photo of them w/MO pointing her middle finger and BO crossing his fingers, photoshopped? It's just so blatant!
I've seen him flashing that finger in many photos but this is the first I've seen her doing it. (plus, he usually just scratches his temple)
You should find that Vogue cover photo. I saw it and it was so photoshopped to make MO look thin that it’s not even the same woman!
