Movie for a Sunday afternoon: "The Robe"(1953)
YouTube ^ | 1953 | Henry Koster

Today being Resurrection Sunday, the pick for today's feature is the perennial Easter favorite based upon the Lloyd C. Douglas novel about the Roman centurion who wins Christ's robe and how his life changes. The first film shot in CinemaScope. I particularly love the scene where Jean Simmons' character tells off Emperor Caligula.

It’s a great film. I got to meet Debra Paget who played Lilia in person some years ago. She was very nice and friendly.

I like your tagline.

Henry Koster, who directed THE ROBE, was also responsible for a number of other excellent Christian-themed pictures including THE BISHOP’S WIFE (the first version, with Cary Grant, David Niven and Loretta Young), and A MAN CALLED PETER. He was Fox’s go-to guy for Cinemascope religious epics as well as family comedies like MR. HOBBS TAKES A VACATION. A very underrated filmmaker in my opinion.

And how can you not love Edward G. Robinson as Dathan, LOL?

"We're gonna take out Moses, see?"

I saw “A Man Called Peter” only a few months ago on DVD. It was just as good as I remembered. It also included an audio of one of his sermons.

He really was a great preacher and the Scottish lilt to his voice added to it.

There was a sequel to “The Robe” called “Demetrius and the Gladiators” which I also liked.

“....when the general American consensus was to be Christian, patriotic, pro-life and pro-natural family.”

.
Since 1964 (LBJ reign) the country has admitted so many whose only reason for entering was to get away from their hellholes without any intention to assimilate to the customs of their host and with nothing to donate but the very misery they fled from.

Talking about the balkanization of the US — hell, the Balkans have a more homogeneous society than the US has.

Oh, she was beautiful. How exciting!

Thanks. The last straw for me was when some idiot leftwing professor told his students they should deny their whiteness and their Christianity.

Demetrius was hands down the best gladiator movie until, well, Gladiator.

And no Peter Graves references, please.

I personally don’t care if you read the book or not, but you were the one who mentioned that you were interested in “The Face of Jesus”.
