‘Prometheus 2′ Struggling to Figure Out How to Continue the Franchise?
Screen Crush ^

Posted on 04/07/2013 12:18:16 PM PDT by Perdogg

Just last month, we were led to believe that ‘Prometheus 2‘ had a script and that it was “incredible.” This was at least according to star Noomi Rapace who was set to return in the sequel. Today we have a report of a wildly different story. One in which Fox and director Ridley Scott have absolutely no idea how to continue the franchise with the planned trilogy.

As the story goes, Damon Lindelof convinced Scott and Fox to ditch the planned ending of ‘Prometheus’ (which would have more neatly tied the film into the opening of ‘Alien’) for something different; something that would launch a brand new trilogy. This was all well and good but when ‘Prometheus’ hit theaters and faced a wave of criticism, Lindelof decided he didn’t want to return for ‘Prometheus 2′ and this left Scott wondering how they hell he was going to make a sequel.

It wasnt that good of a movie, shouldn’t be hard to find a new producer who can turn out a mediocre movie. I hear Spielberg is available.

Special effects ..ok. The characters sucked. Especially the new “Ripley”.

Prometheus is underwhelming in many ways. It can’t hold a candle to either Alien or Aliens. Even Alien vs Predator was more interesting. But an improved product with a sequel is always welcome.

What was that black goo?

Was the black goo different from the sparkling green goo?

why did Ridley Scott let his 12 year old son do the make up for Wayland?

Why did the Alien run back IN to the room with the deadly black goo? Did he forget his wallet in there?

I was so looking forward to Prometheus, and so disappointed in the result. I’d have to rate it personally lower than Alien3, and that’s pretty low.

It almost seems that with Prometheus, they had 4 or 5 ideas for a script, but instead of picking one, they sort of blended together all of them (we’ll have a prequel, or not a prequel, we’ll have little bitty alien parasites, big alien parasites, dead alien engineers, live alien engineers, crazy alien engineers, a big alien engineer head that does nothing, aliens in metal canisters, aliens in the water, scientists doing stupid things, a main character giving birth to a giant calamari and then not mentioning it to mention her shipmates...).

The gratuitous Stephen Stills song reference was the low point of that flick.

Not that it had many high points.

a big alien engineer head that does nothing

Could be crossover gold here.

The best part was watching Charlize Theron get crushed.

The worst part was the rest of the movie. I mean seriously, the scientific expedition which runs off willy nilly upon discovering an alien craft.

And this was so disappointing because the film should've been awesome! I had been looking forward so long for this film and when I finally got the opportunity to see it, it started out strong and then quickly fell apart due to a weak script, poorly written characters and numerous plot holes.

Heck, instead of making a sequel, maybe they should just start over from scratch.

Yup. I was actually excited about seeing that movie and even paid extra for the 3D version. What a waste!

Didn’t seem plausible coming from Stringer Bell.

The first thing you have to do in assessing “Prometheus” is suspend all the “Predator” references your mind is attempting to tie-in to the movie. Just stop trying to do it because...in that way lies madness.

Once you do that, the next thing you need to do is decide that the opening scene -the one where the pasty skinned, giant spacefarer drinks the DNA-altering, poisonous sludge and plunges off the waterfall - occurs 2000 years ago on the planet where the movie takes place. The bare rock and toxic atmosphere the Prometheus crew encounters is the result of the corrupted DNA working its will on the biosphere. Extrapolate continuing and accelerating degradation of the atmosphere from the end of the movie until Ripley (Sigorney Weaver)shows up ...what, a couple hundred years later...

Finally, you have to decide that the alien that emerges from the pasty skinned, giant spacefarer’s fatal encounter in the medbay at the end of the movie with the giant calamari is an already fertilized queen. The queen part is not too much of a stretch since the alien queen in previous movies (Alien 2 and yes, AvP) has had an extensible mouth shape that is distinguishably different from your standard Mark 1 Mod 0 alien. The self-fertilizing part is inferred since this queen, who is the first of its kind and its total population, eventually will have to deposit egg pods in the lower reaches of the crashed spaceship (prior to succumbing to the increasingly toxic atmosphere).

Put these three together and and voila! you've got a crashed ring-shaped ship full of alien egg pods on a lifeless planet with a highly toxic atmosphere. Which, of course, is the starting point for “Alien.”

As for Dr. Shaw and her quest, personally I hope to never hear from her again.

Instead, pick up the Predators thread and run with that. There is at least one more movie in it with some pretty interesting problems/plot elements to be worked out if Royce and Isabelle are to get off of the game preserve planet and make it back to Earth.

It’s not the same planet as the one the Nostromom landed on.
