The mystery deepens. We’ve all seen companies go under, or discontinue certain product lines because profitability has disappeared from the equation. But this situation has a completely different feel.

Maalox is a cheap and effective drug for gastric acidity, gas, and the phosphorus binding capability. The drug has been around since the 1920’s and not had any side effects. There is not a new drug on the market that is as cheap and effective as aluminum hydroxide gel or liquid for heartburn, gastric acidity, and the ability to bind phosphorus in renal failure patients.

Several veterinary compounding companies have taken up the slack but the cost is much higher.
