Yes you are correct but I find that my treasures are only mementos of the hunt. It’s really just the hunt I am after, the material things are just things.
I tend to sell a few treasures when things are tight but I always keep pictures and research done on them. The real treasure is the story.
Some Texas detectorists I know found the dog tags of a WWI soldier (in Texas at a place that used to be a troop marshalling facility in WWI) and returned them to the guys daughter. She gave them photocopies of all his correspondence and diaries from his time in France. It was pretty cool.
