For most of my many years I have made a conscious effort to avoid any type of large gathering. Made an exception for Sarah Palin.

That’s great you saw Sarah!
I wanted to be a part of the RNC National Convention in 2004 since it was in NYC and I live in NJ. When asked where we would like to volunteer, I was certain I wanted to stay away from Madison Square Garden. Too risky, I thought.
So I volunteered to great the delegates at the airports for two or three days. On Sunday, I met a delegate from Illinois who had never been to NYC. I told him Id show him around. On Tuesday we met at 12 noon and we toured until 12 midnight! It was fun, and he probably saw more in 12 hours than some tourists see in a week! He was so appreciative.
When he asked me to attend Thursday evenings convention as his guest, I didnt hesitate. He even asked if I wanted to bring my daughter, which I did. Of course, Thursday was the big day with the Bushs and the Cheneys there. It was such a thrill that I never once felt unsafe.
