GET SCARED GET SCARED GET SCARED!!!! TRAGEDY PORN!!!

CITY ON LOCKDOWN (which, really? A city the size of Boston in complete shutdown for one guy?)

Get back to normal.

I just can’t take the media and even some of the government anymore. They manipulate with emotions far too often.

You my friend are unbelievable. The BS wasnt laying IED’s around the city. The police did EXACTLY what they should have done here. In the case of an Active Shooter scenario (with IED’s to boot) the less people moving around the better...it worked exactly the way it should have. I also agree with a former post that we have broken new ground here.

IMHO...

From a tactical/military perspective, it was a great plan, given that the shooters had done no intelligent preparation for their escape. If they had prepared stashes of cash, food, medicine, etc., as well as prepared multiple safe locations for themselves, and multiple identities/changes of clothes, disguises, etc., all without relying on anyone else having knowledge of their plans, they could have theoretically alternated between hunkering down and moving about for months, rendering the lockdown useless, along with the less sophisticated LE techniques. It would have come down to LE really doing some heavy-duty police work at that point. The fact that these killers did not have any real preparation makes it clear they were not evil masterminds themselves but were eager and willing albeit stupid pawns.

The lockdown decreases the chances of people being shot.

But who ever promised that shooters would never kill innocent people ?

Every time there is gunfire in the 5 boroughs of New York City, the entire city should be cleared and put on lockdown. There would be no one outside for the shooter to hit. One by one, LE could go through the entire city looking for the dude. If the police think they see him, they could send a shower of lead in his general direction. Sounds nice tactically, but it's a miserable nightmare in terms of freedom. The inconvenience and cost would strip the citizenry of what remains of their dignity.

Yes, a shooter can kill numerous people if there is no lockdown.

But whenever shooting breaks out, or a bomb goes off, everyone runs and ducks for cover, they don't stand there and get mowed down.

Some will die or be hurt, many will get away.

But the PUBLIC will immediately start wanting to point this guy out - to LEAVE THEIR HOMES and LOOK AT THEIR BLOODY BOAT. They're being attacked - they will respond and they have every right to respond and they should use maximum force to kill the perp who is trying to kill them. They are in self-defense - kill or be killed - and no mercy is warranted on the perp who has used deadly force on innocent bystanders at that point, unless he surrenders and manages to convince the defender that he has laid down his arms. And if the defender does not trust him and blows his head off in self defense, the defender should get a medal. If the perp goes to trial, justice should be speedy. The trial should be within 30 days, 30 days for appeal, and 30 days for execution. This sends a message to would-be terror planners, that we're not cowering metrosexuals but we're grown-ups with enough grit to not be bothered much by having to defend ourselves, in fact, we enjoy the satisfaction of justly eliminating rodents.

The idea of ruthless self defense is one essential part of a country being safe and peaceful; of course there are others that are essential as well, like judges who do not let defendants game the legal system, barring terrorists from entering, surveilling those visitors who hail from nations chock full of terrorists, etc.

An active shooter, by definition, is caught dead to rights in the act. He therefore invites open season upon himself from all citizens - since he is a threat to all citizens. That guy in clocktower would not kill NEARLY as many people if he's on the receiving end of heavy fire himself. LE should simply be the guys we call to make things official. If they get there in time, great, if not, they can file a report.

As an aside, Americans need to be awake when they're out and about - and notice what the h@ll is going on around them, like knapsacks and such, even as they're all absorbed in whatever they're doing.

If we continue on the path we're on, any media broadcast of public danger will trigger in us an instinctive desire to follow directions, surrender and go home and watch the TV to see the excitement and wait for the all-clear.

Do we send US Citizens to Gitmo?

(Not being sarcastic, I just haven’t thought about it before)

And desensitized to military ‘looking’ police marching in door to door.

I know they were state police, but it was a striking scene that should give everyone pause. Especially will billions of rounds being bought by DHS.

I’m surprised by how many ‘it was for the good of people’ Freepers we have here. That scares me more than anything.

Travis has a pic at post #39 of a man in a military police uniform checking a man’s papers.

Just saw that. That just amped up this ridiculousness.

Why are Freepers ok with this? FOR THEIR OWN GOOD? Cammo wearing armed police stomping in and out of houses is OK? For a wounded 19 year old?

I don’t know, that Freepers are ok with MP checking ID Nazi style is more frightening than anything. Makes me think we are lost already.

I worked just outside of Dallas for a while, stayed downtown.

It was wonderful seeing gunracks on the way to work, the people I worked with were fantastic. What a great feeling, what great Americans in that State.

A major city has NEVER been put on lockdown in America.

I think Boston put the rest of the country's cities in peril with that move. Future terrorists have been taking notes, and marvel at the disruption this lockdown cost....way, way out of proportion to the two IEDs planted at a footrace.

That's my thought, too. Hiding behind locked doors only increases your probability of becoming an unwilling "host".

Sorry about posting to LS and travis mcgee but I would like your input.

1. That super private and super expensive Latin School Terrorist #1 went to, what is their curriculum? Did a good portion of the school (classes and teachers) support the anti-American nonsense that Islam and other entities spew?

2. I got a queasy feeling yesterday seeing the overwhelming force go after a dangerous yet puny 19 year old. I have no clue how law enforcement could have handled it differently, BUT I can see how this big government response motivates a lot of future terrorists to do a lot of damage. They only need 10 puny terrorists to lock down 5 large cities. Dumb move if you ask me. I would have preferred a more elegant solution but that would have required a lot of good intel.

3.”But somehow when you get into the details of every script on TV, whether it's news, entertainment or the mixture we so often see, it's all subtly marching everyone in the direction of obedience to the police state.”

I think the propaganda was worse during WW2, but we won that war. This is a different time with a larger government with greater power over the individual.

That depends on you. If you are unarmed, what you say about becoming an unwilling “host” is correct. If you are armed, and carrying every second, then your house is a potential booby-trap for the boob.

“That door you just kicked down was locked for your protection.”

It’s encouraging that, faced with a power grab by the government, people chose to stock up on guns and ammo.

I don’t know what school he went to but almost any college will have a heavy dose of “anti-American nonsense” and are overwhelmingly tolerant of the most fundamentalist style of Islam. At the U. of Dayton—a Catholic school-—you see the full burquas everywhere!!

Yeah, I thought that too. I didn’t hear that question asked or even hinted at in the weeklong 24 hour coverage. I guess Freepers and Chris Wallace are the only ones thinking like that.

I understand your point. Whether at home or in the open ... it's safer to be armed than not.
