I’ve been at it since 1967 and I’ve ALWAYS known this symbol a ‘hash’ within the systems / programming context. In some graphical / typographical contexts it is also known as ‘splat’.

I’d call it a ‘bang’. Exclamation mark in most non-computer languages.
shebang is another shorthand for, “#!”. Often how you tell the unix shell what script you are using.
“#!/bin/csh” or “#!/bin/bash” for example

OK, so hashtags are the words/phrase AFTER the pound sign... thx Yes. Therefore it isn't a "pound" sign but rather a "number" sign. Pound sign is supposed to be after, not before. "I'd like a 10# bag of potatoes." Not "I'd like a #8 sheet metal screw."
You're welcome!

“Bang!” Or, “Bang! Bang!” == Do what I did last time.

That’s actually a really good point. Lexical order matters in this case too. Interesting.
I’d like 8# of 8d nails please. #construction :)

when did the pound sign become hashtag? I believe the hashtag is the pound sign "#" plus a phrase that is used as an index for related comments.
