A New Westminster man whose family pet was viciously mauled by a pit bull at a Burnaby park wants the owner found and held accountable.
Burnaby RCMP confirmed it is investigating a pit bull attack on Darren Pilling’s three-year-old Sheltie, Finley, at Burnaby Fraser Foreshore park at around 1:30 p.m. last Monday.
An eyewitness had snapped photos of the pit bull owner, who fled the scene after refusing to lend aid or give his name and contact information.
“I’d like to see the guy caught,” said Pilling. “You don’t do that. There’s a crapload of vet bills. He should pay for that. But forget the money, he’s disrupted by whole family’s life.”
Pilling said the mystery man was walking on the trail with a woman and two dogs, including an grey pit bull, when the unleashed canine went for Pilling’s 15 pound Sheltie.
“It didn’t stop to sniff her, no dog stuff — it just comes over and eats her,” said a still-incredulous Pilling.
Pilling started kicking the pit bull in the mouth to force it to let go of Finley. Instead of helping, the pit bull owner got angry at him for kicking his dog.

A pit bull nearly killed my dog at dog park. Local Animal Control officer said they are trying to find a specific pit bull because it has attacked a number of dogs.
About $1K of vet bills later, he’s fine.
Pit bulls should be outlawed and people who own them locked up — or vice versa.

Last summer some s.o.b. tossed something like that into yards on our block, almost lost our one mutt, one neighbor did lose their boxer, and two other neighbor’s dogs got real sick as well.

Once again my freedom loving, liberal hating brothers-in-arms are crying about mean dogs. Such a big man you are that you can put poison on meatballs. Little wimps.
They seem to be the breed of choice these days. I really don’t know why except for people wanting to be “trendy” because there are so many other great breeds of dog that aren’t known to turn very dangerous. It’s not fair that a parent has to be worried every time their child goes out to play or to a bus stop. My own daughter will not take a walk with my grandson because there’s a pit that gets loose all the time, says she can’t pinpoint where it lives. I don’t care how much the pittbull lovers complain but I say people, especially with kids and little dogs, would breathe a lot easier if they were banned.
