In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

aleatory \EY-lee-uh-tawr-ee, -tohr-ee, AL-ee-\ , adjective
1. of or pertaining to accidental causes; of luck or chance; unpredictable: an aleatory element.
2. Law. depending on a contingent event: an aleatory contract.
3. Music. employing the element of chance in the choice of tones, rests, durations, rhythms, dynamics, etc.

Example sentences:
...it was not a matter of reduction at all, but—perversely—of expansion, the aleatory flutter of uncontrolled, metastatic growth…
-- David Foster Wallace, Infinite Jest, 1996

[Man] is supposed to love happiness; it is my contention that he rather loves excitement. Danger, enterprise, hope, the novel, the aleatory, are dearer to man than regular meals.
-- Robert Louis Stevenson, The Day After To-morrow, 1866

Etymology:
Hailing from the Latin word meaning "the dice" or "chance" alea, aleatory first surfaced in English in the late seventeenth century.

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

If you sat down and imagined what a great Game One would look like, it would be something like what happened in Pittsburgh last night. 4 goals in 22 minutes, sending the starting goaltender to the bench.

His second term barely ambulatory
Obama’s elections were aleatory
Got votes ‘cause he’s black
But now Congress fights back
So he end-runs with edicts, regulatory

the Islanders should be embarrassed to have put up NO resistance.I guess it’s a great game if you don’t want any competition! to me a great game is a hard-fought one where my team comes out on top, not one where the opponents lay down on the ice and let you skate rings around them!

Oh, I do hope it gets more interesting at some point. Not necessarily in this series.

I am in the ofc again today, going to come in twice per week and work from home on the PT days. Yesterday’s PT was quite good. i think she hit on a problem area. It’s at the side of upper thigh, where a bunch of stuff comes together, she said it was all knotted up and she massaged it and said it might hurt later, but it never did and today i have noticeably less pain than previously. I will see the orthopod next Tuesday.

an example of an aleatory contract would be a law firm contracting to employ a graduating law student, contingent upon them passing the bar exam.

Are you some kind of racist?

Obama got well over 90% of the Black vote. In some precints, he got well over 100%. No, I'm not a racist.

Hospitals do that with nursing students too, contingent on them passing their boards. A for you!
We watched the Canuckleheads game last night, hoping someone would plow into Burrows or Kesler. It's sad when your only motivation to watch a game is to see someone get what they deserve!

I’m just channeling Treacher. I should have put that in my post. It seems no one can criticize the big zero without being called a racist.

we are excited to have TORTS back in our lives. Xsgirls are going to the game tonight. Hopefully Torts will have reason to throw another water bottle! xshub is heading to Syracuse to play in a fundraiser golf tourney with his brotherinlaw and xsboy to benefit SU hockey team. He’s also going to start to go through his dad’s house in preparation for selling it.

My team is well positioned for the draft. That is all. I am rooting for some of these games to go to multiple OTs just to wear them out.

My knee hurts so much today that I can’t think straight. I may have to re-think “getting off” pain pills. But the alternative is so bad (constipation) that I’m reluctant to go the other way.

At least I got the business plan straightened out, and the haircut has been postponed until noon. Just because I’ve been married to this man for 54 years, what makes him think that I can read his scribbles?

Take something else to combat the side effects. Drink prune juice and lots of water. If you need pain pills to move and do your PT, take them.

The outcome wasn’t good in that game either, was it? I want lots of OTs, bonus hockey, with the chance of beating each other up so badly that we can beat a bunch of them in the early going next season. We had 3 guys get shoulder surgery 2 weeks ago, all on the same day.
