Word For The Day, Thursday, May 9, 2013 – decussate
dictionaries ad nauseam | 9 May 2013 | Thursday's sub

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

decussate \DEK-uh-sayt\ verb
to intersect or cross

Example sentences:
The illustration on page 34 of your textbook shows how the optic nerves decussate.

"The fibers of the lateral spinothalamic tract decussate one or two levels above or below where the injury may occur…."
— From an article by Kim Boswell, MD, and Jay Menaker, MD, in Trauma Reports, January 1, 2013

Etymology:
The history of "decussate" leads us back to the intersection of "decem," a word meaning "ten," and "ass-," a form that refers to a unit of weight and specifically to a copper coin cut to a half-ounce. In the Roman numeral system the number 10 is represented by X, an intersection of two lines. A man named Sir Thomas Browne coined "decussate" in the 17th century to discuss the crossing fibers that make up human anatomy—for instance, skin tissue. The word continues to be found primarily in scientific contexts today.

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

It works though, because we are definitely at a crossroads with right and wrong.

Benghazi: Ms. Clinton was SecaState
Told lies that will probably wreck her date
As the first female prez
And, perhaps, the first lez
But her stories and truth never decussate

Lying comes so naturally to her that it is no surprise she and Bill wound up with each other. They both prefer women and lies. A+ for you.

We used to play the Woo Hoo song and sing Vo-Koun instead with the arm gestures(arms up for Vo, down for Koun) after a good series.

one of my friends whose daughter is graduating from UVA next weekend advised me to make reservations for xsboy’s graduation from SU, NOW, because hotels sell out. they made their’s a year ago and were only able to get a bed and breakfast and were lucky to get that! i told xshub this, who lollygagged for a few weeks and started trying this AM. true enough almost everything was sold out. He was able to get us several rooms, thankfully so we are set. But you have to wonder when people make their reservations in order to get the close in hotels etc.

I wouldn’t think most places keep a calendar much more than a year out.

It is 61 and misty ahead of approaching rain-

With heavy-handed attempts
To decussate with the masses
All the emperor’s minions wear
A pair of clouded glasses-

Glasses that present a view
That is all mirrors and smoke-
And ignores the people weary
Of being jobless and broke

The antics now are wearing thin
Of the latest whitehouse crook
Who continues chapter and verse
To use Richard Nixon’s book

Thank you!

So many in the direct Obamasphere have assumed the roles of Haldeman, Mitchell and the rest that the playbook must be getting dog-earned and worn by now...

Oh, Milhous-hating started in the 50’s - and has never stopped for the fellow-travelers. Saw a poll a little while back that put Nixon only a little lower than Hitler (of course) and Pol Pot and Idi Admin, but ahead of Stalin and Mao as the most evil people of the past century.

Will Nanny Bloomberg want decossingates at all railroad tracks and bus stops?

Okay ya'll. I'm serious. If you don't have a guy to vote for in this cover contest, how can you resist this guy? He's strong, hard-working, humble, handsome, talented, and does tons of charity, especially at Room at the Inn and for children. He's a good hunter and fisherman, all around guy's guy and has a good sense of humor. Vote for Mike!
