Two days before the date his boss had predicted as the Apocalypse, Matt Tuter made an auspicious decision: He canceled the skywriters.
Family Radio, the Oakland-based evangelical network run by Harold Camping, had already spent more than $5 million on 5,000 billboards announcing Judgment Day -- May 21, 2011 -- according to tax documents. Now, Tuter said, he feared that the airplanes, which were to inscribe the warnings in the skies above major U.S. cities, were one expense too many for a business operating as if there really would be no tomorrow.
Two years later, Camping's predictive powers have been thoroughly discredited. But the financial reckoning that Tuter foresaw for Family Radio may be coming soon, according to public financial documents and current and former high-level Family Radio employees who spoke to this newspaper.
Among the indicators:
The nonprofit has sold its three largest radio stations, all cash generators.

A group of Atheists (one wore a T shirt with “Atheists” in the style of the Oakland A’s logo) played songs like “Rapture” and mannikins tied to balloons were launched into the air, as well as recordings of Camping’s show being
amplified via megaphones.
He hasn’t done any worse than Al Gore.
Boy, I am sad. As disillusioned as they may be, they read scripture about 5 times a day and I love listening to scripture being read!
It is called “Rat Poison” Bible teaching.
Why?
Because like Rat Poison it is 99.9% good food... with just a wee little bit of poison.
But that is enough to kill you.
I love to listen to their programming when I’m mowing my grass. I mow about 6 acres on a zero turn and it takes about 5 hours. Their signal comes in stong and clear on my headphones, and their programming is great. I’m going to miss them.

There was a time many, many years ago when I listened to KEAR everyday to the Open Forum, and especially to the Sacred Concert Hall on Sundays (later cancelled).
Camping seems to be a deeply religious man and to have spent his whole life studying the Bible. Maybe he doesn’t want Family Radio to continue after he dies because he knew there is no one who can replace him; and he cannot be sure his successors will remain faithful to the Bible.
Though his predictions over the years had all been wrong, I too believe our days on Earth are numbered, probably less than 100 years to go.
I think they have the best gospel music on earth, but I always turned it off when Harold Camping came on. I first heard him talk about the second coming in 1993. I stopped listening to him then.
After they sold 106.9 FM in the Philly area, they did have enough cash around to buy 950 AM which puts out a good signal over the region (43,000 watts day, 21,000 watts night) from two different transmitter locations.
