The taxpayers just built a new stadium for the Miami Marlins, only to have the Marlins sell off most of their quality players immediately afterwards, assuring the city will have a last place team for the foreseeable future. I don’t think they’ll be too anxious to foot the bill for yet another new stadium anytime soon.
I used to be a huge sports fan, now I hope they all go broke.
I think the Marlins problem is that they seem to embrace Latin America for marketing. They even built the stadium in Little Havana at the old Orange bowl site.
The thing is the majority of th people who went to the games, especially in 1997 and 2003 were Americans and mostly white from Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach county. Additionally after both World Series they had a garage sale of all the great players on those teams. They have abused their fan base throughout their entire history. They reap what they sow.
