Word For The Day, Thursday, May 16, 2013 – requite
dictionaries ad nauseam | 16 May 2013 | Thursday's sub

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

requite\rih-KWYTE\ verb
1. to make return for : repay
2. to make retaliation for : avenge
3. to make suitable return to for a benefit or service or for an injury

Example sentences:
Beautiful but malevolent, Maude requited Sydney's love with scorn and treachery.

"Odds are that O’Brien's flare-up of romantic love for Amanda won't be requited."
— From a movie review by John Wirt in The Advocate (Baton Rouge, Louisiana), November 16, 2012

Etymology:
You might be familiar with the phrase "unrequited love." Love that has not been requited is love that has not been returned or paid back in kind, which brings us to the common denominator in the above definitions for "requite"—the idea of repayment, recompense, or retribution. The "quite" in "requite" is a now obsolete English verb meaning "to set free, discharge, or repay." ("Quite" is also related to the English verb "quit," the oldest meanings of which include "to pay up" and "to set free.") "Quiten," the Middle English source of "quite," can be traced back through Anglo-French to Latin "quietus" ("quiet" or "at rest"), a word which is also an ancestor of the English word "quiet."

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Then it’s me that’s adjusting. LOL I figured out how to get my steps in today without leaving her in the kennel. I am fast walking in place and have over 6000 steps doing that. For my health program through DH’s work, I have a step counter that I download to a website that keeps track. When I meet my goal for the year, I get $200 in health care bonus money. I didn’t want to leave her the first few days, so I had to adjust. RME

It’s getting too hot for a lap dog anyway. ;)

Julius is pretty huge for a lapdog, but he will still climb up on me! but now that it’s finally gotten warm here, he and Chan will stick to the hardwood floors, it keeps them cooler.

Horrifying.

Only thing that could make it worse would be if it was Helen Thomas.

That’s cool-savings are good. Is it a weight loss or a fitness program, or does it come with a gym membership?

How much does he weigh? Yeti boy is a 22 lb furball, but that doesn’t keep him from getting onto the chair with me when Titus or Midget girl aren’t occupying that space, and mashing my legs while he purrs happily...

It’s just a health care program, not weight loss or anything else. LM bought into it, it’s a service offered to companies to promote healthy living. It’s call Virgin Health Miles.

That sounds like a good alternative for anyone who doesn’t have access to a hike/bike trail, woods, and other places to exercise outdoors.

I could not do without having a place where you can run/walk over uneven terrain among the trees in the quiet, away from motorized vehicles-there was a 5+ miles long greenbelt/wilderness area park behind the neighborhood we lived in in the city-you could barely hear the traffic noise when you were in there...

I’m with you. I NEED to be outdoors each day. I love seeing the wildlife and my regular friends, some with dogs, walking, jogging, skating, and biking. I go crazy when I have to use the treadmill for inclement weather.

No matter how bad my mood is, an hour or two in the woods with the animals is guaranteed to restore my optimism. More often than not, the forest is empty of humans, and if anyone is there, it is always one of the same 4 people besides myself who hike there.
