Could this perhaps be why His imperiousness was unavailable to approve a rescue on 09/11/12?

Or the rover is actually in the desert in Arizona?

Or more probably the Japanese UFO watcher was just making it up

It's a rock.

'With water existing on Mars in small amounts, its possible to find such desert animals wandering around...although very rare mind you.'

No, it's impossible. There is no food or oxygen or liquid water on Mars. The air pressure is only 1% Earth atmospheric.

Pareidolia (/pærɨˈdoʊliə/ parr-i-doh-lee-ə) is a psychological phenomenon involving a vague and random stimulus (often an image or sound) being perceived as significant, a form of apophenia. Common examples include seeing images of animals or faces in clouds, the man in the moon or the Moon rabbit, and hearing hidden messages on records when played in reverse.

Stare at anything long enough, and you’ll start to see familiar shapes. Some people look at clouds, this guy chooses to gaze at pictures from Mars. Just because you can make out a thing doesn’t meant it’s actually there.
If the Curiosity Rover sighted something as complex as a rat, a lizard or Dejah Thoris, I’m sure they would be trumpeting it loud and long.
