I’m looking for a new spotting scope.
Any recommendations?
Go browse http://www.opticsplanet.com
Nice list. That’ll come in handy.
I just have a cheap one, but the Leupold recommendation sounds like a winner.
What do you think about this one?

In before mylife?
WOW!
There’s 3 different product and price levels on that page. When I got the Barrett 82A1, I had to upgrade to get out to its full range.
I use this one:
The specs look okay, but the price “worries” me. You do get what you pay for in spotting & shooting optics.
What are you going to be shooting? AR-15 at 200yds? Something larger and longer?
WOW, that is the nicest spotting scope I’ve ever seen.
I think mine cost about 70 bucks and goes to 20x.
Frog, that Celestron looks like a good one. 60x and won’t take up much room in the range bag. I’ve never seen one that compact.
Yep. 30 caliber or smaller for the most part. 200-300 yards max. There aren’t any ranges around here to shoot farther than that. Mylife has a range with some gongs at 400.
It looks like a good deal for the money, but my concern would be that it might not be very rugged.
mylife was at the FReeper shoot. He’s driving home today.
I wouldn’t worry too much about it not being rugged enough.
Mine is about 4 years old, works pretty good, and is not as nice as the Celestron.
The GR 20-60x80 Kit I have isn’t made anymore, but any of the individual scopes can be had w/ tripod, case, caps, filters, as options.
I really had to bite the bullet to spend an add’l $2,500 for it, after spending $12,500 for the 82A1 w/ Leupold Mark 4 M1 Glass & BORS.
But man, it was a ***wet fantasy*** for me, and I love it. Wish I could come to the FR TexasCowboy Shoot, and let everyone have a turn at personally seeing what it can do at 2,000yds+...

The Leupold/BORS is sweet:

When I had the Family Farm, I made my own 2,000yd range for the Barrett & AR10s, and this 300yd range for my other hardware:
I was going to use my neighbor's CAT D-9 Dozer and move that earthen backstop back another 900yds and combine the 2 ranges, plus widen the lanes, and build proper platforms and booths, but time ran out before I closed the Business on 11/1/11. When I go back for a visit, I still do shooting there or at a neighboring friend's Farm Range.
Well, still...
WOO-HOO!
;-)
I’ve seen some inexpensive scopes fall apart after 4-5hrs of
serious shooting in one afternoon, over the years. ‘Couse I still have that old ‘59 Bushnell 10x on my ‘58 Mossberg 144LS .22LR Bolt Action, but it’s not tough on glass, and both are in pristine condition.
Are the Barska scopes any good, or are they junk?
