I remember one episode after he moved the show to Miami. He sat in the chair on the stage, took a sip of ‘coffee’ and said, “Whoa! They cut this coffee so much that it is bleeding in the cup!” LOL
Actually, it was after the intro on the Jackie Gleason variety show in the late 1960’s that he took a sip of coffee & then went “OooooWow!!!”
I liked that later show better than the Honeymooners. Their apartment set may have resonated with some, but for others it was a reminder of what had only recently been escaped from, with that leap into the nice suburban home with a yard, a driveway, & a car of one’s own.
In the variety show Gleason depicted a successful man, not a lower class blowhard. JMHO.
And by the way, some of us remember that before 1955, Jackie Gleason was a successful bandleader of his own orchestra and produced some truly beautiful easy listening music.
