When the American Psychiatric Association classifies EVERYTHING as mental illness, the figure seems incredibly low. Anxiety and stress are APA classified while everyone else calls them......life.

So the goal is to designate everyone as mental defectives and limit their liberties.
They want the legal power to lock up anyone who presents a problem.
Challenge your overlords and show a bit of high emotion while doing so; well that man is obviously mentally unstable.
If you are a conservative and happen to shed a tear at your mother’s funeral; well we your overlords noticed and marked it down for future reference because you definitely should not own firearms because you are unstable.
For the Progressive the law is a tool to control the masses. The Progressives have seen that the second amendment is an impediment to total control of the masses. Well if law can constrain those who should wield power then law shall be the means to constrain those who will not yield to those who would rule.

Most mental illnesses are neither dangerous, incapacitating, nor permanent.
Law enforcement, the judiciary, legislators, and liberal pundits are no more free from dealing with mental issues than anyone else.
In my younger years I worked with many that were from behind the Iron Curtain. The job sucked and I stayed way to long, but I look back now on it and the gem I take away from it was what I learned from these folks. And one of those things is how the USSR used Psychiatry as a Political Weapon against those who were resisting Statism. Can one see history maybe not repeating itself but at least rhyming here? If you go there then one may ask why were they so intent on all medical records in a centralized database at their disposal and subject to Siblius's "shall issue" power?
