This is a good article, but I had three other words for my last couple of employers.
To: ShadowAce
Answer: When the person you’re speaking to can no longer influence your future.
Otherwise, you express your departure in terms of having found a better opportunity.
I recently found the original draft of my resignation letter from 13 years ago.
My boss convinced me to replace it with a short “found a better opportunity” letter.
As a result, he hired me back 3 years later, when I discovered the grass was NOT greener.....

or this will be taken into account are patronising attempts to give you nothing.

Other than pertinent info for your successors (i.e. where the launch codes are) merely state that you will be leaving and on what day. All else is none of their business.

Small world. Always leave on good terms. Don’t burn bridge.
UNLESS ethical issues involved, then run and don’t walk.

I have never burned a bridge. I am keenly aware of how small the IT industry is.

Any possibilities and methods to quit but still remain on the payroll indefinitely? Oh wait, that’s called collecting welfare. (’

Never burn a bridge.
Learned that the hard way when as a twenty-something skull o' mush I ripped my bosses about sixteen new ones in my "exit interview".
Flash-forward a decade, and one day they bought the company I was then working for. DOH!!

Contracting at a higher rate to do the exact job you use to do once they figure out that no one else understands the system.

Well, youre firing!
Solid words to a police officer at the range.
Not so good to an angry nuclear launch controller.

Get a government job. Be the subject of a long-term investigation. Keep earning time toward your retirment perks while you stay home, the paychecks keep on coming.

The grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence, but I agree with the statement of if you have a bad boss or one you dont think has your best interests at heart, its best to move on.
I wasted too many years in a bad situation. I should have moved on 5 years earlier.

I bailed nicely from a major oil company.
Three years later, the division I had worked for was spun off and the new owners (including my old boss) were looking for talent. My old boss called me.
Nice.

I don’t burn ‘em..I blow ‘em up.
I johnny paycheck’d 4 jobs....2 of them I had been at 10+ years, another 5 years.
I figured I was only 5 minutes ahead of the posse anyway.
They are now all out of business....
I’m at my current job 7+ plus years...so far, no posse.
