[Vanity] NBA Finals Game 7 - Spurs vs. Heat
self | 2013-06-20 | Me, myself and I

Posted on 06/20/2013 3:58:55 PM PDT by re_nortex

Game Seven.

In the realm of sport ($1 to RINO Romney), those are two stirring words.

And in just a few hours, the San Antonio Spurs have a shot at redemption after frittering away what should have been a slam dunk for a fifth NBA title and a deserved crowning of a dynasty.

Game six is still fresh in my mind. Not only Tuesday's collapse when the Spurs were up by 5 with 20 seconds left. Yet another game six is still painful for this Texan. That of course was the 107th World Series when the Rangers were two strikes away -- TWICE -- from claiming the prize. Similarly, San Antonio was just two free throws away -- TWICE -- from beating the Heat on their own floor.

It seemed inevitable. Miami fans were streaming for the exits for what appeared to be a fait accompli. Even the Larry O'Brien trophy was being wheeled down the hall for the postgame ceremony and the certain Spurs celebration.

But, like 2011, 2013 a game six was the dagger for two Texas teams.

Can the Spurs bounce back? The series has been a sequence of alternating win-lose. And the arrow now points in San Antonio's direction. But after the crushing defeat of just two days ago, it will be a miracle to overcome the home floor advantage and the momentum now clearly on Miami's side.

So who wins? Lebron and the Heat in a romp.

I think my pregame analysis is on target and the prediction of a Heat win will be right. But my fervent hope is that I'm totally wrong and, in a few hours, will be eating crow on this very forum.

Let me assure you, that bird will be a very tasty late night dish.

Spurs probably should win, probably should have won already, but it’s NBA refs, Heat will win.

I am rooting for the Spurs, as a Laker fan I cant stand watching the Heat win..Spurs had all the momentum last game and because of Popovich playing cute(Which I was surprised because he is a damn good coach) the Spurs lost..up 5 with 28 seconds to go..not sure if the Spurs can win this game tonight..Age becomes a factor and the Heat are younger and the Spurs might be gassed..whatever happens tonight, a team is gonna get blown out, question is which one

Spurs had the game won two days ago and choked to high heaven. No one at all to blame but themselves when Miami cuts down the nets tonight.

There's a term made near legendary on Usenet: anti-weauf. It's a somewhere more "severe" form of expect the worst but hope for the best.

I thought this was an interesting story on seebs' sports website yesterday. Apparently the Spurs illegally substituted Tim Duncan after the review of Ray Allen's 3 pointer at the end of regulation.

Looks like, had the Spurs scored, the game would have been over, the trophy awarded, and once the Heat would have filed a protest, they all would have come back to Miami and replay the last 6 seconds.

Weird - here's the link

Refs didn’t call TWO fouls in the last minute on Miami.

I predict that Tim Duncan will foolishly be sent to the bench during the last minute of regulation. As a result, the Spurs will allow 2 offensive rebounds leading to a pair of game tying 3 pointers by the Heat. Then the Heat will go on to win by one in overtime.

Oops, that was my Game 6 prediction. Pretty darn accurate. I’ll give you my Game 7 prediction tomorrow.

...whatever happens tonight, a team is gonna get blown out, question is which one.

That's the way I see it unfortunately. And with now less than two hour before tipoff, it's Miami's night.

That said, on SportsCenter, they showed a graphic revealing that whenever the Spurs lose in overtime, they go on to win the next game by double digits.

As a Maverick fan...I may never say this again....GO SPURS!!!

Even if the Heat lose, the media will still pronounce the Heat the best basketball team..evah. And LeBron is the best player in the history of basketball..evah!

Come on Timmy, Tony, Manu and all you guys..do us proud. I just love to see DWade get all pouty!

As a Maverick fan...I may never say this again....GO SPURS!!!

During the regular season, I'm a homer for the local team. But when any team from Texas is on the national stage in a championship series, my state pride trumps all. That's why, even though my heart is with the Aggies, I was so joyous when the otherwise dreaded Longhorns took it to USC in the 2006 Rose Bowl.

I sure hope my prediction is dead wrong. Feel free to jump on me mercilessly with "I told you so" in a few hours! For tonight's game I want to have the accuracy of Dick Morris.

As a Laker fan, I have a lot of respect for the Spurs..and Popovich who will go down as one of the best coaches to ever coach the game and Tim Duncan even at 37 is phenomenal..the mistake Popovich made was not playing Duncan in the 4th quarter, that was costly, he relied on his bench and they blew it..and Manu had perhaps the worst game Ive ever seen him play..not sure if Duncan can have that kind of performance twice..they need Gary Neal to have a big night and Tony Parker too
I am personally rooting against the Heat because I am sick and tired of the media affair with the Heat..they can do no wrong, LeBron can do no wrong in their eyes..and seeing Magic Johnson have orgies whenever LeBron scores is sickening..the media’s love affair with the Heat is like the love affair the media has for Obama, besides, LeBron is a big Obama supporter would love to see him lose

Jump on you? No way...we might well have to mourn together. ;)

I rooted for the Longhorns as well, and I’m a Techie fan. So I totally get where you are coming from.

“the media’s love affair with the Heat is like their love affair with Obama”

Bingo!!

I can’t think of too much that will pull Laker’s fans and Maverick’s fan together like the Heat can!

To me, this is like Hitler vs. Stalin. Wish they could play to a 0-0 tie in which all the players are disqualified.
