DALLAS (AP) — Federal authorities say Texas has far and away the largest number of firearms in the U.S. reported as lost or stolen.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives issued a report this week showing there were 18,874 firearms lost or stolen in Texas in 2012. The figure represents 10 percent of the total national number.”
That is hilarious! All you Texans losing your guns. I suppose that’s because you keep going fishing with guns to shoot the fish and the boat tips, and.... I’m in Texas, too, and haven’t reported mine lost - yet.

Mine aren’t lost or stolen. They might be “temporarily misplaced” until who-ever is asking loses interest.

I’d like to see that study with a control of “per X firearm owners”. Texas may very well have the largest raw number of lost/stolen firearms, but that needs to be divided by the total number of owners. I’d bet that once that is controlled for, some lib hellhole will be in the top spot.
I think such a study would be difficult to conduct, given the number of ex-firearm owners on this forum.

I’m a Natural Born Texan and have lived here for over 70 years, less my time in the Navy.
Why would Texans report lost guns to anyone? Stolen guns would be the result of burglaries, so I understand that being done for insurance claim purposes.
We don’t have gun registration in Texas, unless it may be for obtaining a CHL.
My guns aren’t lost, just as soon as we righted the boat after it capsized on Lake Fork, I drew a large X on the side of the boat to mark where they went down. Just haven’t had the time to go back and dive for them.
Shhh. Not so loud.
