Norway is literally drowning in oil,...

Sort of, and sort of not.

Norway's oil production has been in decline since 2000, down by one third now (Norwegian Sea Oil). However Norway has had a couple of possibly major discoveries recently, with a catch, they are claimed by Russia, the player that now gets their way in Western Europe.

Additionally, Norway oil is moving into decommissioning costs, bottom line, it is unlikely that Norway can save any of Western Europe other than maybe Norway. Norway has demonstrated the ability to get along with Russia when Russia is strong, and I suspect that she will do that again, resulting in Russia controlling the majority of Western European petro energy for decades to come.

I suspect that Europeans are soon to learn that Russians have long memories.

I take at face value the rest of your post.

They do indeed. I suspect that when Stalin was offered, by (FDR, was it?) a good chunk of Northern Norway as ice-free sea access but said no, thank you, it was partly because of Nansen’s work saving a lot of Russians. Instead of staying put, the Russian forces packed up their stuff and went home in good order.
