Yeah. And one of the conversations with one of the IRS people, when we got our 2nd or 3rd letter asking for the same thing, that we had sent a couple months before, the very next day after we knew what they wanted, he told me on the phone to just disregard the newest letter, because it would mess them up if we replied... and I said something about “failure to respond threats” in their letter, and he said, well it did not matter, since they DID have what they needed from us... so it was a very creepy situation to be in, with the letter saying how much trouble we might be in and the guy on the phone saying don’t bother to reply to the letter, it would just cause delays....
What options did they give you? Can you more easily produce any bank statements or credit card statements to show the deposits or expenses? Might be easier to get those records online or from the vendor.
Otherwise, yes, would probably pay the money and move on unless you are due for a trip back to the area “soon”.
Ah, no those were the stats for 2012.
Not heading back any time soon. I could probably spend time requesting of bills paid in cash (that I was paid in cash) but just dang. Live and learn.
Ah, meaning they will audit more from now on. Guess i should explain my comments more.
