On one hand, I’d like to read it because I feel strongly about what happened and know it’s an important book to read, but on the other I understand it’s a difficult read because of the graphic nature of the abuse detailed in the book. I haven’t been able to reconcile the two — yet. Maybe one day....

The abuse is graphically described, something that's necessary to show how purely evil Vick and his accomplices were. However, the rest of the book is truly inspiring in describing the great and courageous work some law enforcement people and prosecutors did and the wonderful rehabilitation of the dogs. Two of the law enforcement people involved in the case, Surry County Commonwealth Attorney Gerald Poindexter and Sheriff Harold Brown, both fellow Amish of Vick's, didi their best to sabotage the case. Indeed, Brown went so far as to fire the heroic investigator who made the case.
