No viruses or malware on my retired Dell. We only use it to burn CDs etc. When I hit "start" and then go the programs list all of the little icons have turned purple except for the last program I installed today. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Weird.
What is wrong with FR, again. Won’t completely load.
I would uninstall the program you installed.
If no workie then do a system restore!
Restore to a previous point and examine your last install with suspicion.
This isn’t my system. I have a Mac. This is something that FR has happened several times in the past. Everything else loads up just fine. While I have used XP in the past, I did numerous restores to a previous date to eliminate problems endemic with Windows.
You could try checking your Display settings in Control Panel.
What program did you just install?
I would start with uninstalling the last program, or doing a System Restore to a point more than 2 days ago.
Also, might I recommend for future use, CC Cleaner (which is a free registry and temp file cleaner that works really good at cleaning your system) and Super AntiSpyware (which is a free anti-spyware program that works really good at removing bad cookies, spyware, trojans, etc).
XP can at times lose its mind when it comes to what icons to assign. Sounds dumb, but see if restarting wakes it up, or as another poster said, uninstall the latest addition.
Out of curiosity (unless I missed it) what did you install before they changed colors?
I’ve ran cc cleaner as well. I don’t have a restore disk, ugh. The pc runs fine. I will try display options. Tomorrow I can make a screen dump and show what it looks like.
Truthfully it was like this before I installed windows defender hoping it would clear it up. I had this iYOGi stupid toolbar and their pc tune up thing which has been uninstalled.
You don’t need a restore disk!! Go to start/programs/Accessories/system tools/system restore. Then select a restore date. Pick the date where the icons worked correctly and start the program rum. May take 10 minutes depending on your machine. Good Luck!!
Uninstalling doesn't always remove all traces of a program, especially if it's one of those stupid toolbars.
I have found that REVO UNINSTALLER is much more thorough.
It's free and can be downloaded from CNET.DOWNLOAD.COM. (although it won't do you much good now if you have already gone through the normal uninstall )
Also make sure you use the REGISTRY CLEANER on CCLEANER.
Sorry that reply was to the OP of the thread!
Yes FR does this from time to time!
P.S. Sometimes a loose monitor cable can cause ‘color’ problems. If it’s only the icons that have weird colors, then that likely isn’t the problem, but it’s worth checking.
Try repairing the icons with tweakui
It’s the NSA copying your files. (Just kidding.)
Oh Boy, now that looks interesting! Thanks, will try and advise!
Link to TweekUI
It's not there.
I hope somebody at Microsoft got fired for that one.
