simulacrum; noun
. a slight, unreal, or superficial likeness or semblance. 2. an effigy, image, or representation: a simulacrum of Aphrodite.
Etymology:
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

good thing. RME. We have probs used it in here before as well, but because i just read it yesterday i knew i was going to haul it in here today.
I am back from Houston. it was fun visiting my brother, but hot. He has a very nice house in an area called Porter. I felt like we did a ton of driving while there. My niece, the engineer who just graduated from u Akron and who will be starting at Dow in a few weeks, has an apt in Pearland, which she just moved some of her stuff into. As they were on their way to pick us up at the airport on Thursday, she got a call that her apt had been broken into. Very unsettling. It’s in a gated community, and they thought it was safe enough. They ain’t in Warren, Ohio anymore! They took her jewelry, while she didn’t have a ton, she had some very nice pieces. We had gotten her a tiffany bracelet for her HS graduation, and they got that and the rest.
Hey guys, does Pearland have a rep for being a crime-ridden area? I guess because the plant is in Freeport and there is nowhere there to live, they thought as between Pearland and Lake Jackson, there was a little more to do as far as shopping etc. in Pearland, so that’s why she picked that over LJ.
That’s an unfortunate type of visit from the welcome wagon.
I had a loss of my own yesterday. I took Sarah up to Keystone to go swimming and my wedding ring came off somewhere in the lake.
I know that it is time to go grocery shopping when I’m reduced to scaping up the simulacrums from the bottom of the cookie jar, mixing chocolate chip remnants with snickerdoodles.
Obama is a mere cypher, a simulacrum of a president; Allen West would serve as the quintessence of one.

Well, I managed to go 16 years without losing it, so that’s pretty good.
Me, too. But, when I was 17, it was a very good year.
Sorry to hear about your daughter. She’s lucky that it was only her “goods” and not her person.
I know from my 10 years living in Southwest Suburban Houston and working as a local reporter and newspaper editor that crime is so rampant that it barely gets reported. My little paper covered 3 small communities and our most popular feature was our crime column. In fact, it made the owner of the paper a wealthy woman.
I had to go each week and copy down everything on the police blotter from 3 communities. I insisted on publishing everything because to be selective could produce charges of bias and discrimination. Most of the PDs were cooperative, except for Sugarland. They didn’t want anything published.
In Houston, however, even dead bodies found in dumpsters didn’t make the news. Pearland, as I remember, was a mixed community. Lots of blue collar workers from the refineries there. Your neice should get a burglar alarm installed and keep it armed at all times. It is doubtful that she will ever see her belongings again.
Collecting the crime news every week (even in our small, relatively safe community) made my husband’s transfer to the Seattle are really easy to accept.
Of course, we were never burglarized when we lived in TX, and we were in both Washington State and Wisconsin — go figure.

I remember when when my son brought his bride here for Thanksgiving when they'd just been married about 6 months. I was still cleaning up dishes when I heard a commotion in the driveway and noticed my 2 sons and husband out in the snow. I went to check and was ushered insside without figuring out what was happening.
About 20 minutes later, they came inside and my son whispered that they were shooting hoops and his wedding ring flew oww and landed in a snow bank. They found it and I was sworn to secrecy so that his new bride wouldn't find out.

holy crap! that’s awful! was it loose? I mean i know it gets looser when you’re in the water etc. but mine have never been in danger of coming off. you must feel terrible. and that means you will now be on the dang PROWL ; )
I’m sure sifting through the sandy bottom looking for good flat rocks to skip was the main problem.
