Good morning - we saw so many bammer bumper stickers in Santa Fe that we almost quit rolling our eyes when we saw one. Lots of old men with long grey thinning hair, pulled back in a pony tail - women with no makeup and similarly grey hair - the sad thing was the young people were bums - begging for money on the streets. So even in the artsy fartsy liberal communities, the time has passed for people to enjoy their free lifestyle, selling their “art”. I assume many retired from elsewhere and moved to Santa Fe to live the artists life. It reminded me of Hawaii - a pretty facade but behind the art corridors is some pretty amazing poverty.

What was the attraction in Santa Fe? See anything neat? Any good food?

We saw a couple of art galleries - enjoyed the architecture, but other than that all I seemed to focus on was the poverty and the bums begging for (drug) money. The interesting part was the shopkeepers, who themselves are bleeding heart liberals, seemed happy that the police were pretty adept at moving the bums along......and clearing out their gathering areas to sleep. Hum, aren't they supposed to be supporting the "occupy" types and suggesting "the man" is the cause of their troubles? ;^)

I'm not a huge fan of the northern NM cuisine - I like Tex-mex better. We actually had better food in Arizona

Speaking of drum music, percussion is a key part anabasis for every good March

Just what every community needs-a bunch of young bums-aren’t they even holding up “will work” signs? I remember Santa Fe as a rather charming-if somewhat loony-place-and there was an “art” shop on every corner...

No I didn’t see signs - a few were playing some kind of music so you could throw a few bucks toward their hat or whatever, but the woman who came up to us just wanted us to give her money.

there was a homeless woman who came up to my car window as i was getting in. we had to park near the shelter which is near our church. She was brandishing a prescription pill bottle. they are far more bold than ever in the past. i do desperately want to direct them down to 1600 Penna. Ave, which is just a few blocks away. Their friend lives there and he promised them so much.

Amazing-did the woman have a reason why a stranger should give her money? I had a vision of a woman in ragged clothes, waving a battered cup and saying alms for the poor...
