America is a lot less polite these days

Which is why I refuse to engage in any extraneous conversation at all with anyone younger than me. I was raised right and know how to comport myself in the presence of ladies and gentlemen. Too bad they are far and few between. Suits me though.

Example; I had a lovely conversation at the grocery store produce department last night with a lovely 70 year old woman who was very carefully selecting just the right Red Bliss potatoes from a bin.
I politely waited my turn so she could finish. When she did, she turned and saw me waiting. She apologized for hogging the potato bin. I assured her there was no need for an apology. With a huge sunshine smile I had already covertly ensured she hadn't taken all the "good ones".
We shared a laugh and then shared Red Bliss recipes. It was short, polite and delightful.

Imagine trying that with a 30 year old woman who has her face in her iPhone and her head up her arse. No thanks.

Not a bad plan, especially in public or in mixed company. But in the grocery store I never see anyone younger than me buying produce and raw food. They go straight for the trendy upsell items; organic boxed/frozen foods, power beverages and the like. I stay out of those aisles.

The only other stores I hang out in sell things that go "bang". Not many young trendoids come in, and when they do they are usually good for some laughs.
