A San Diego man admitted he shot his neighbor's pit bull on Facebook after it bit him Monday night, and an unusual conversation erupted on his page as some people defended the man's right to self-defense and others vilified him for his actions. Read on for reactions and our poll.
"Well, I said if that dog came in my yard and attacked again Id shoot it," Valencia Park resident Lee Pattison wrote. "So I did."
From his Facebook page, which now appears to have been taken down:
Lyle Van Horn: "You have a law suit on your hands."
Brian Gurule: "Good. Didn't that dog attack yours not to long ago?"
Juan G. Fuentes: "This is bad news Lee.. San Diego is filled with hippies and tree huggers.. Hope you don't get too much heat about it.."
Pattison's response? "Juan I think it's all good. All police say I'm in the right."

Well, of course, the police would say it’s ok to shoot dogs. :)
However, I agree with the neighbor, if your dog gets out and attacks somebody, it shouldn’t be shocking that it doesn’t go home.

I love how the headline is so misleading. The guy didn’t admit to it on Facebook. He called the proper authorities and reported the entire incident.
The headline is to make it look like the guy got “caught” because he blabbed on Facebook.
He did nothing wrong. The dog needed killin’.
End of story.

He is lucky that was the extent of his injuries. I would have shot the dog, too. However, I seldom have my revolver on my person when I am in my yard with my dogs.

If any dog comes IN my fenced yard and hurts my dogs, that dog will be hurt or dead. I always hate that an animal dies but sometimes there isn’t much choice. With a limited view of the owners home (a mess), I doubt she took much care of her dog. Sad. RIP puppy-dog.

You should at least unfriend him first.

Same here.
I will do whatever is necessary to protect my dogs.
Sorry for the poor dumb dog.
The owner who knew better should go to jail.
