AMMO!!
Vanity

Posted on 07/05/2013 9:07:59 AM PDT by Doctor 2Brains

Can somebody please give me the latest scoop on buying ammo? Somebody around here always has good info.

Just after Newtown, I went to the Nation's Gun Show in Chantilly, VA and got 4,000 round of 9mm and .45. By the way, don't blame me as a "panic buyer;" for the past 8 years, that's been my usual buy at the NGS. Prics were up by only 1 penny per round, and there was ammo to be had. Now, I'm down to my last 65 rounds, and I'm beginning to freak. The prices at DAG Ammo actually DROPPED last week, but they are COMPLETELY out of stock.

What can a desperate man do?

Thanks

I know where you’re comin’ from. I found a 500 count brick of Remington green and mustard colored leadheads while digging around in my tool cabinets! I discovered the boxes are collectibles ... yeah, empty boxes as collector items. ‘Go figger’

Shop early and often. Get your local delivery schedules and check in the mornings. If you want to stock up it may ate a month or two.

That's... just weird.

I guess that unopened brick of Russian .22lr with the steel cases might be worth something. The only language on the paper package is Russian.

Thanks - they jumped the 15rd 30 carbine mag from $8 to $21 just after the big ammo run.

In the Mid-South .22 is impossible to come by. I know quite a few dealers. I’m hearing stories of people paying $150 for Remington bulk packs. I’m just glad I’m not out.

Place backorders? Or, if you have the capital, start your own ammo-manufacturing plant.

I know someone who has done that, and now he can't get brass.

The same problem exist for reloading components. Everything is bought up and you have to scramble to find powder, bullets and primers.

Do you police your brass? If not can I go shooting with you?

Seriously, look into reloading. With a good progressive loader, you could reload a months worth of ammo in an evening.

That being said, reloading components have disappeared too. I have cut way back on shooting because, although I have a significant number of rounds loaded and components to reload that brass a couple more times, I’m hesitant to use it without knowing I can replace it.

Went to a WalMart to see what they had - plenty of 9mm, 7.62x39, and .243.

The rest was very slim pickings - no .223 or .308 & only .22 was high dollar CCI.

BTW - I also thought .243 was a very underrated round. Dang flat shooting, does not tear up your deer, and modest recoil. For a bolt action hunting rifle it is near perfect for what I shoot. But then, I am not a big game guy.

You save at least half the cost, too, right?

Walmart had plenty of 9mm? My wife’s been going for weeks, and it’s always ZERO. Zero 9mm and zero .45. He says the truck comes in and every round is gone within the hour.
