I posted this on the other thread but my son who is 18 now, plays summer baseball for college players and their home stadium is in Sanford.
You have to drive about a mile (25MPH speed limit) through a pretty rough neighborhood off of 17-92 before you get to the the stadium. Sketchy for sure, though I’ve never openly witnessed a drug deal or hooker (usually its during the afternoon).
I have concerns, he’s a big mean kid if it’s 1-on-1 but if people are turning over cars and stuff, he’ll have to get out of there. 6’3” 215, strong as a bull with MMA training, but that’s no match for a gang of thugs. I have no weapon he can carry and no money to buy anything right now either.
I think that the trial has shown just how weak the prosecution case is, thus diminishing the sense of racial grievance. With a bit of caution, not getting isolated, and having anything as a weapon, even just a baseball bat, your son should be OK.
A baseball player has a ready made excuse as for why they have a baseball bat.
