It wouldn't hurt, but I'm thinking that it's getting close to the time that we should be ripping up what is left of the spring crops and prepping for the fall/winter crops. If you are planning on a second crop this year, you may want to save your fertilizers.
I have had a similar issue with certain varieties of tomato plants this year. I have one plant that is 6ft tall with one scrawny little tomato on it. Needless to say, I won't be planting that type in the future. I have had very good results with Green Zebra Cherry, Black Krim, Roma, and Golden Jubilee tomatoes this year.
Another question - are your plants in the full sun all day or do they have partial shade? I have 30% shadecloth over the top of the hoophouse to protect the plants from the sun when it's hottest. Overheated plants will flower, but won't bear fruit.
Oh wow. Don’t know about second crop. I’m using pots, so maybe I won’t lose the fertilizer.
LOL! I put some phosphate out this morning. I killed one of the tomato plants which is on the smaller side. I burned it up. Oh well.
I’m going to say partial, because most are in morning shade, then as the sun rises, in the sky they get full sun, and then toward the afternoon, they are in a bit of shade again. I didn’t know that about the heat. I clearly need to take into consideration that we are not in the 80-90 degree full sun of some of our more northerly neighbors. So often we have that 100 degree heat to deal with. More shade is probably appropriate here.
What are you planning to plant for your 2nd crop?
