Hot weather: No plans to impose a hosepipe ban

There are no plans to impose a hosepipe ban despite the heatwave affecting much of the UK, the BBC has been told.

Water UK, which represents all major water companies, said there was no need to panic as reservoir levels were where they should be.

Many parts of the country are looking parched after more than a week of hot weather, and the situation is set to continue for another week.

Meanwhile, commuters have been facing more disruption because of the heat.

Train services in and out of London's Waterloo station are back to normal after severe delays on Monday night caused by a rail which buckled in the heat.

I love the English language - the British and American variations. Hosepipe sounds like a word I might hear from a Southron or perhaps a Pennsylvania Dutch

I love the word hosepipe. I even named a dog “Hosepipe” once, although he usually went by “Hoser.” Both names fit him very, very well. ;-)

‘Hosepipe’ made me think of a Benny Hill skit.

I have got a hosepipe
I have got a hosepipe
I have got a hosepipe
What should I do with it?

Here in central PA at 1056 EST, it's already 93°, dew point's 64°, and it's just flatout disgusting outside.

No relief in sight til at least the weekend, when it may drop to a chilly 85ish°.
