Hong Kong’s action films of the same era were far better. Hollywood butchered them when they brought them to the US. They also gave the star Chinese directors crap scripts to work with.

I think it was to save the Die Hard/Lethal Weapon franchises and the stateside knockoffs.

I liked it too. I thought it was better than RED 1. It seemed more like a James Bond movie, with lots of action.

Die Hard was better than just about all of the action movies that came after it.

I really am having a hard time thinking of one that exceeds it.

That’s when terrorists were seen as the bad guys and weren’t celebrated like rock stars or given entire countries by the White house.

By far the best action movie ever made. I remember thinking so at the time, and then thinking that it would be a long wait for the next one.

I'm still waiting. I've seen a lot of enjoyable action movies since then, but none have topped it yet.

Blart the Mall Cop is somewhat of a Diehard rip off with a little bit of Rambo thrown in.

I loved the scene where Bonnie Bedelia punched the reporter.

Talk about typecasting, the report was also “Dickless” in Ghostbusters.

The Director was on a roll from 87-90.
Predator, Die Hard, and The Hunt for Red October.

I always liked action-oriented films, but I’m frankly not too keen on the whole modern ‘operatic’ style of the genre. Always seems a bit too hokey and contrived for me, as they seem to be trying to emulate roller-coaster rides, or a dizzying video-game. CGI exposions, etc.

Really does nothing for me. Yet, I found myself almost jumping out of my seat last week while watching a ridiculously antique, silent b-western, in which the leading lady on a fast, runaway buckboard literally makes a huge leap onto the back of the hero’s galloping horse. Undoubtedly a stuntman in drag. But it looked REAL and it looked dangerous as hell. Even made the horse rear up. No special-effects, no back-projection.
