Today was our first full day in Singapore and there could not have been a more beautiful introduction than our tour of the Botanic Gardens. Singapore Botanic Gardens are known for their orchids and in 1957 the country began to name selected orchid hybrids after State Visitors to foster closer ties between nations. As an avid gardener, I am honored that they chose to name a deep purple Dendrobium orchid the Joe and Jill Biden during our visit today. Well bring some Joe and Jill Biden orchids back to DC to display at the Vice Presidents Residence.
After leaving the Gardens, we drove to Singapores new Green Childrens Library, which is made entirely out of recycled materials. Singapore boasts some of the most sophisticated libraries in the world and our partnership with the National Library Board (NLB) has proved to be a wonderful relationship for the U.S. Embassy. Earlier this year the Embassy partnered with the NLB on an e-reader program, allowing library visitors to check out electronic tablets that have access to thousands of book titles. The Embassy has donated over 400 e-readers, emphasizing the importance of education to both of our countries.

Do the Chinese own a portion of FR now and you are there Representative?
Seriously, I have never seen so many stories on Asia.
Singapore is not a territory of China. I focus on Asia-Pacific threads for late night FReepers in America and FReepers who live and work in the Asia-Pacific region. Feel free to ignore my threads.
I didn't know so many FReepers live outside the US in Asia.
I hope you haven't been indoctrinated by the Chinese propaganda about America.
I have seen more than a few Expats ask on here if our cities are really on fire.
Give Obama another year, they will be.
Just contact the US consulate in Beijing and they’ll let you know I’m not drinking the Obama-Mao Kool-AID. How do you think I got black-listed from the Chinese media? I made a few too many criticisms saying the Chinese should not follow the path of Obama’s socialist agenda. Proud to say, got at least 3 formal letters of complaint from the US State Department and “persona non grata” at all US Chamber of Commerce in Beijing events that promote environmentalism.
Just wish someone had told ole Joe that everyone chews gum all the time and that Singaporeans love to be hugged in public...would have been fun to watch the caning ;-)
We all know the Rulers in China are really more Fascist than anything, in a incestuous relationship with US and Global Companies to maintain power while maximizing profit.
Just don't drink the Anti-American Kool Aid, Okay?
Barry, Biden and the rest of them can go eat it, the fruits of what they want in Communist China and The Soviet Russia anyway, Their forebears cheered them on in the 20's and they cheer them on now.
I was just recently in Singapore, July 8-13, and i did spend a few hours at the Botanic Garden, including the Orchid Garden. It was spectacular.
The rest of this article makes me puke.
FYI, I live much of my life outside of the US.
some of us visit China for work and find the posts interesting, at least I do.
And don’t forget the litter. When you open a candy bar on their busses, just toss the wrapper out the window.
I just posted 2 economics’ articles about China and they mysteriously disapeared. Are we being told to invest only in Obama’s American economy?
