In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

lenitive \LEN-uh-tiv\ adjective
alleviating pain or harshness : soothing

Example sentences:
Peppermint, chamomile, and ginger are all reputed to have a lenitive effect on the digestive system.

"They sing of thunder and driving rain, upon occasion, but thelenitive electro pop of Canadian boy-girl duo Purity Ring is decidedly more calming."
— From an announcement by Jason Bracelin in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, April 7, 2013

Etymology:
"Lenitive" first appeared in English in the 15th century. It derived from the Latin verb "lenire" ("to soften or soothe"), which was itself formed from the adjective "lenis," meaning "soft" or "mild." "Lenire" also gave us the adjective "lenient," which usually means "tolerant" or "indulgent" today but in its original sense carried the meaning of "relieving pain or stress." Often found in medical contexts, "lenitive" can also be a noun referring to a treatment (such as a salve) with soothing or healing properties.

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

In pseudo-lenitive fashion, the White Hut, Jay Carney,
and the sycophantic MSM, purport that Benghazi, YesWeScan,
Fast&Furious, the MANPAD Xfer, Hasan, the endless helping terrorists,
and the IRS atrocities are "nothing to see" ... compared to Weiner's privates.

After a long cold winter’s day of shoveling snow and bearing the season’t worst, a nice hot bowl of lenitive soup still doesn’t equal a warm brandy.

cross-stitch[which i have only recently resumed since getting Jules 2 years ago next week!], songpop, and words with friends are my only lenitive activities, since the news, which has always been my passion, has become unbearable.

After my recent surgery, I found Aleve to be more lenitive than any of the narcotics that they prescibed, or Tylenol.

On defunding “O-Care” our side’s tentative
Mealy-mouthed, cowardly, lenitive
We must shut down this horror

OK, so this apparently passed without any comment here, but am I to understand that the NHL decided to realign?

They used to have an “Atlantic” division.

They now have an “Atlantic” division.

But none of the teams from the former are in the latter?

That’s retarded, sir.

I just wanted to let it be known publicly that I don’t care what the NHL says about the “Metropolitan” division. As I have since I was born, I will call the division with Pittsburgh, Philly, and the New York/New Jersey teams the “Patrick” division.

I understand completely. These gray socks I'm knitting are taking forever, 1. because they are gray and 2. because they are for a man and need to be so much bigger.
A for you.

THe reason Aleve (or its generic) works is because the pain comes from inflammation. Aleve attacks inflammtion whereas the other drugs relieve arthritic pain, or so they say. 4 months after surgery, my surgical knee is still warmer to the touch than the non surgical knee. The Dr. says that’s normal and it means that healing is still going on in there.

So ice, or ice with Aleve is the ticket. I seldom take anything for it — just grit my teeth. But wrapping it in a cold pack at bed time puts me right to sleep. I never thought that would work because ice is not my favorite thing. But, it really does. Rubbing Aspercreme on the scar helps too.

My unsolicited advice for the day.
