One mafia type said that the method they used was to raise rats specifically for this purpose, dip them into gasoline and light them up and then set them free, they will go into every nook and cranny and crawlspace and the place will go up and at the end all they find is rat carcasses [guess they mostly used this in warehouses etc. where rats would be expected].
