FWIW Dept.

My mother made me wear a pixie when I was little because she got a bug up her butt that I could only wear my hair short. I hated it. My relatives called me Sam. To this day if my hair it cut shorter than I like i have an intense emotional reaction.

At 59, you would think I would be over it. Some traumas stay forever.

My aunt is a stylist and mom took me for a trim one day.

She lopped off 6” and I went apoplectic.

Several months later, the Mick Jagger shag got forced on me.

When I left home at 18, that was it.

It’s been shoulder blade length or more ever since.

Yes, it’s a “trauma”.

I’m your age and I’m the same way. My mother always hacked off my hair and made me wear these ridiculous little Mamie Eisenhower bangs. She didn’t understand that long straight hair was in and looking like the ‘40s or ‘50s was HER era, not mine. As soon as I was old enough to do what I wanted, I grew my hair long and it’s been long ever since.
