Not really....
Hasan wants to plead guilty (as any TRUE terrorist would), but he is not being allowed to. You also have eyewitnesses who actually saw him do the shooting.
Tsarnaev pleaded not guilty.
They do it because it’s safe. They can have a fantasy relationship via letters and email without ever having to deal with the psycho IRL. They also have a ready-made community of the like-minded. It is just another version of the Hollywood Fan Club.
It is a female thing, though, not a young female thing. How many adult women enter into long-distance relationships with serial killers who are incarcerated for life? Enough that they even become *experts* on the perp and end up writing articles and books about them. Some of my gender can be a never-ending source of embarrassment to the rest of us.
Then there are the wives and girlfriends of all sorts of scum, from killers to rapists to child molesters. They get to be long-suffering martyrs who are called *angels* by their lifer mates while having an excuse to never again having to deal with the guy in reality. If they were legally married and have children by the criminal, they can get state benefits, too. Win, win.
Meanwhile, they probably contribute to the inmate’s prison commissary account, any legal defense fund that may exist and have no idea how many others are doing the same thing.
I will bet these females are all fans of the romance novel genre, as well.
Just as much as Nancy Pelosi.
