Some Clearwater-based anglers aboard the Marlin Darlin got quite a surprise Thursday morning when a 350-pound marlin jumped into their boat while they were fishing off the coast of Dominican Republic.

Bobby Jacobsen and the crew aboard his 62-foot Spencer Yachts Sportfish was shooting the video while one of his friends fought the fish.

Capt. Eddie Wheeler usually releases billfish caught aboard his boat but this marlin was so badly injured after thrashing about the boat, he gave it to local fisherman.

Which one was the culprit? I'm thinking back row, center.

Well, you can’t blame a fish for fighting back.

That looks like a really light pole for a 350 lb. fish.

Dude is fortunate he didn’t get impaled.

I did read one blurb years ago about a similar incident, but the fish broke both legs of the wife [of the sport fisherman] that went along for the ride.

En Garde! Don’t bring a fishing pole to a sword fight.

It does.

By the way, would the fish have granted him three wishes, if they threw him back?

Was the fisherman Hillary's old cattle futures broker? Might explain her luck.
