Public hanging creates bad PR. I prefer the Japanese method.
An entire year is set aside for the hanging, and no one is notified prior to the hanging.
At some seemingly random day, the condemned is taken from his cell, then hanged.
Then his attorney is notified, to tell the decedent’s family, if any, and to arrange for pick up of the remains.
This is a surprisingly efficient method of execution, given that it is extremely difficult to appeal a criminal conviction in Japan as well. So if they trial court says someone is to be executed, they will almost certainly be executed.
That’s kind of an exquisite mental torture. Will it be today?
