The biggest problem I had with Bowyers' spin-out is from a safety perspective. He may THINK that he's such a master driver that he could put the car into a controlled spin, but he can't be sure.

Earnhardt, Jr. said he was behind him when it happened, and he's glad that he didn't hit him. All it might have taken is an inattentive driver at that moment to slam into Bowyer, for serious damage to result.

Toyota could and I’d only be a little bit surprised if they strongly suggested that Michael step waaaay back from being a part of MWR. While this is a fool-me-twice instance (remember the gel in the carburetors back when) and blatantly dishonest I think it’d be hard to dump the entire organization for a heat-of-the-moment (poor) decision. Mickey? Yes. A lot of precedents being set here; this SNAFU isn’t going away or going to be forgotten for awhile

I won’t be forgetting Bowyer on this one. He went down about six notches, and I personally liked him — this “incident” has something to do about integrity and ethics and was just plain wrong.

I agree, they need to let Gordon into the chase. It’s not fair to rectify the situation with Newman and not with Gordon, especially when they say Vickers pitting was the pivotal conversation that made NASCAR take action.

I’ll bet that DW is really embarrassed since Michael got his wings clipped.

Probably. I certainly would be. Egos are strong with this bunch though; I bet the phone lines were burning up btn the conclusion of the race and Monday when the penalities were announced.

When I think of the man hours of labor that were spent on this issue, I am glad I’m not footing the bill! Every team had something to say to their people about it, of that I’m certain.

In addition, I think Nascar to their credit spent some man hours listening to all of Bowyer’s radio transmissions and not just the ones the media have been spoon feeding to the public. I’m a longtime Bowyer fan and listened to his scanner throughout the race. Clint’s car was fading and they did think they had a tire issue at the time of the spin. In addition, Brian Pattie was razzing Clint about his arm throughout the race...when Nascar went back and listened they no doubt heard those transmissions. Maybe those transmissions were part of a scheme but they probably did make Clint’s denial plausible enough to escape more serious penalties....at least for now. Bowyer is going to be under the Nascar radar like he’s never been before....and if you know Bowyer’s history....that’s saying alot.

It’s a shame that it happened but I think NASCAR will be viewed in a better light because of the penalties they enforced.

Uh-oh. Maybe another penalty brewing from the Saturday race re: Logano & Gilliland:

Yep, and how about NASCAR letting Jeff Gordon back into the Chase?
