Dying Oakland Father Asks for Help Solving Son's Murder

A terminally ill Oakland father heartbroken by his son's murder almost two years ago on Thursday made a heartfelt plea in the hopes that someone can provide clues leading to the capture of the killer. Charles Butler, Sr. is dying. He can barely breathe and frequently has trouble sleeping and eating. At times, he is in quite a bit of physical pain. But he told KTVU it’s the pain of heartbreak that tears him apart on the inside.

"He was a good guy and I was proud of him," said the infirmed father as he spoke about his son, Charles Bradley, Jr. "He was right by my side all the way and was my only son."

Butler Sr. lost his namesake son three days before Christmas on December 22, 2011.

Oakland police investigator Phong Tran said Charles Butler, Jr. bumped a car while parking his own vehicle in West Oakland that day. "This case is very important," said Tran. "Still active, still open. I work it every day."

An argument inside a store ensued before the fatal shooting that took the young man's life.

"On the way home, minutes after the argument, he was chased down and shot," said Tran.

Tran said Butler's organs saved five lives. But now it's Butler, Sr. whose life is in jeopardy.

"This is the end of Charles Butler, Sr.," said Eldonia Valery, the mother of Charles Butler, Jr. "I tell you, he can sit here, but its killing him."

With the breath he has left, Butler, Sr. is asking for the public’s help solving the crime.

"I want to be around to see the people who did the crime," said Butler, Sr. "I'm just at a place where right now, I can't explain it. I wish no parent would have to go through [this]."

He hopes a person who has information on the case will hear his plea and help heal the painful loss that ripped apart a father-son bond. A reward of $25,000 is being offered for any information that helps solve the murder and bring closure for a man who says he just wants to someday close his eyes in peace, not pain.

If you believe that they work the case daily I have ocean front property in Death Valley to sell.

God please grant this sick man his dying wish. But then there will be no one there to fight the stupid parole hearings for him, so make it life with out parole.

Mother of murdered child. 6 parole hearings later, and the prep walks on a bad plea deal.

And YOU NEVER GET OVER IT! it just recedes a little, until a holiday, BD, aniv. of death rolls around and then it hits you full force again.

And know he now walks a free man able to kill again makes you want to puke. And to know you are one of his targets makes you CCW.
