I wonder how NY will fare under a leftist mayor? Guiliani really cleaned up the place and made it appealing for visitors. Bloomberg is not as good a mayor, but is at least understanding of how necessary a good police force is to a world class city.
I plan to visit NY in December. I figure it is now or never. If I wait until it begins to decay under idiot leftist mayors, my window of opportunity may be gone forever.

If Joe Lohta ( who was Giuliani’s deputy mayor and was beside him in 9/11 ) wins, the police policy that has been in place for 20 years will continue and NYC will continue to do well.
If ANY one of the Dems win, it’s downhill from here...

Stick to Midtown, studiously avoid areas where the people aren't well dressed, resist the urge to “go native” unless you've become familiar or have a native friend/acquaintance as a guide. The subway stinks, literally, and you'll be rubbing elbows with the crazies. Get a decent hotel that is walkable to most of what you want to see and do, and take at least a cab if there's someplace you want to go that is not walkable, very difficult to hail in the rain away from the entrance to your hotel. If you can afford to hire a black car service, do so. It's like a private cab at your immediate beck and call, a black full-size luxury sedan, Cadillac or Lincoln usually. Do this and there's no place on earth quite like it, very enjoyable for a long weekend. Beyond that, I have to get out, it starts to be just too much.
