How come there are no storm tracks west and east of South America? Notice that there are no hurricane tracks through the center equatorial region (about +- 8 degrees latitude north and south). Funny that. Where it is hottest, there are no hurricanes. The lack of equatorial hurricanes means that a significant part of the South American land mass, is located where no hurricanes form.

I get why there are very few hurricane near the equator: Lack of Coriolis effect.
Further south, I would expect at least some hurricanes to form, compare with the opposite hemisphere with just as much open water.
