Is this a swipe at MS?...........
Details?
On servers?
I am of the opinion that the best “boost” for Linux would be an alteration of the core OS so that it follows the model of Minix 3 as the Kernel / hypervisor mode and the OSes running in user mode.
They just ,...in effect said ,...we are in the Server ?Business with our Power 7+ and now Power 8.
I still don’t understand why they sold off their PC/Laptop/printer businesses....
Make it run users in a Virtual Machine,....in some fashion.
Minix takes that concept to a higher level by first making the OS run in user mode which is in essence, a virtual machine at the OS level.
Looks like Big Blue is getting tired of putting up
with the vagaries and vulnerabilities of Windoze.
It was the IBM platform the made Bill Gates and now
they appear to be giving his product the cold shoulder.
IBM to spend $1 billion on Linux in 2001IBM uses Linux under z/VM on mainframes
as the world largest server
as well as Linux on blades.
Back in the early 2000’s, IBM did testing of how many Linux instances it could run simultaneously on one of the big Dino mainframes.
They started to see degradation when they got up to something like 44,000 Linuxes.
44,000.
All running at the same time!
Dinos RULE!!!!
I still dont understand why they sold off their PC/Laptop/printer businesses....
I have a hunch IBM doesn't care for competition.
Unload your Microslop stock now, while it’s still worth more than toilet paper.
Bad advice. You seem to unfamiliar with the nations “cloud” centers.
Wow. Not a fan of Unix, eh?
Worked so well for them with OS/2 and its an even worse corporation today.
Linux: Buy computer. Download Bob’s compiler, Mary’s linker, wait...John update to Bob’s compiler but only if using Mary’s latest version that has Eric’s patch to...no, wait...Forget Bob’s compiler, there’s a new one now....so, download jerry’s compiler, uninstall Mary’s linker that isn’t compatible, then find the right linker version from John that has George’s macros but with...3 weeks later, actually compile a file.

Perhaps they wanted to concentrate on core business.
