I doubt the economics are there...the median car on the road today is 11.5 yrs old...implied mileage near 140,000....half are greater. By 20 yrs old so many high cost systems are failing and corrosion effects in the northern part of the country would over-ride the value of a super premium engine.

Yeah, I know... lol

Ford does make the best engines and always has, IMO. But, if you're going to go around bragging about being the best, you should keep in mind just how much better your product "could" be, if you really cared about the consumer getting more for bang for their buck, instead of having to buy a new product again in a few years.

Just sayin'... ;)

My older tractor is a 1958 Farmal International Cub, my new one is a 1982 International 274 diesel, my backup riding mower is a 30 year old Snapper, my new one is 20 years old.

Now you know how I feel about the keep a few years and buy new thing, LOL.

Heck, the computer I'm typing on now is 15 years old.

When I get done with something, the junkyard doesn't want it.

the 4.0L V6 in my 4Runner has gobs of torque. It just pulls hard even towing a heavily loaded boat trailer. Pulls 3500lbs like its not even there.

A great truck engine.

When I win the $400 million dollar Powerball jackpot tomorrow night, I’m going to go out first thing and buy myself a brand new Ford Fiesta or Ford Focus…. (not) : ),

I found this and evidently Ford did win for the second consecutive year, the International Engine of the Year at the Engine Expo in Stuttgart Germany but it should be noted that it was for “Ford’s small and powerful 999cc, three-cylinder turbo unit”… “The engine, which is used across a variety of Ford’s small cars, managed to retain its title even against very talented new opposition, particularly in the form of VW’s ingenious 1.4-litre, TSI ACT engine, which was voted as the Best New Engine, ahead Ferrari’s awesome 6.3-litre V12 engine.”

But “Ferrari’s magnificent engine scoops two awards for Best Performance Engine and best engine in the Above 4-litre category”.

“Such yoghurt-weaving greenism would generally send TG into paroxysms of petrolhead indignation, were the Ecoboost engine not so annoyingly, brilliantly brilliant. We love it in the Fiesta, we love it in the Focus...” LOL! (I love those TG guys.)

The Germans still did pretty well however:

New Engine of the Year: Volkswagen 1.4-litre TSI ACT

1-litre to 1.4-litre Engine of the Year: Volkswagen 1.4-litre TSI Twincharger

1.4-litre to 1.8-litre Engine of the Year: BMW-PSA 1.6-litre turbo petrol

1.8-litre to 2.0-litre Engine of the Year: BMW 2.0-litre twin-turbo four-cylinder

2.0-litre to 2.5-litre Engine of the Year: Audi 2.5-litre turbo

2.5-litre to 3.0-litre Engine of the Year: Porsche 2.7-litre DI

Highly commended were BMW's 4.4-litre twin turbo V8 from the M5 and M6, Mercedes-AMG's 5.5-litre V8 as seen doing excellent service in the E63 and SL63.

Of course a car is a lot more than just the engine. Granted the engine is very important but so is the transmission, drive train, suspension, electrical system, the overall aerodynamics along with the aesthetics, overall handling, comfort and ergonomics, etc...

When I win the lottery tomorrow, so far I have my heart set on this:

I’ve also always wanted to own a Jeep Wrangler just for fun.

And a luxury SUV for those long drives to my beach house :)

In reality, I’ll be driving my 2008 4 cyl manual speed Toyota Yaris until it completely dies, which will probably be a good 6 -10 years from now as long as I keep taking care of it as well as I do now.

Interesting comment about the Jeep.
I’ve been working off my automotive bucket list. (these are in addition to my “normal” fleet).

I bought a Cherokee and drove it for a couple years.
Now I’ve got a Miata.
Both were about 4 grand, you can buy a lot of nice stuff for 4 grand if you know what you’re looking for and stalk Craigslist relentlessly.
The Baraqqi economy does produce some nice bargains as folks are plunged into poverty.

LOL, I have a Farmall Super C about the same vintage as your Cub tractor. It belonged to my dad. My grandfather farmed 35 acres of cotton with a Farmall Cub. My grandmother always complained that he never could produce the amount of cotton with it as he could the mule the tractor replaced. My first source of income was picking cotton for him at $0.03 lb. One hundred pounds a day was $3 a day. Big money for a little tike back then and there. lol

Next, I have a 2000 Ford made in the early '70s, then a New Holland, and a Kubota, both built this century. One of the better tractors I've owned was poppin' John - 60 or 70 model. Had a IH 504. Moved a mobile home with it once, about 10 miles down the highway... lol I also had a Ford 8N for a long time. It was actually the first tractor I ever bought.

My favorite pickup that I drive daily is a '99 F-150 4x4 with a V6 and 200,000 miles on it. It still gets about 20 mpg, uses no oil, and rides like a Cadillac. ;)

Outback wagon has 89000 and the next step is having the wife drive it.
She thinks the outback a dog, reliable and go anywhere but a dog.
Think a Wrx may well attract her interests and easy to tow.
Just put on about 600 miles on one lane dirt roads in Yellowstone.

They are. You can get a nonturbo Speedster starting around $28K, three year waiting list though. I’d love to have one with the WRX turbo.

Here’s a good-looking example of the cars they build, more of the classic stock appearance rather than the wild fender flares and alloys:

A very sweet little car, love the exhaust note, sounds pretty authentic.

It’s a great engine...in theory.

Just put another one in my 2004 Dakota.

Head gaskets 3 years ago with Reman heads then it decided to drop a valve seat into a cylinder on the highway about 2 months ago. 140K miles. Big whoop.
Kaboom.

Replaced it with an ATK reman unit.

Multi-layer head gaskets.
Oil return holes in heads and block drilled larger.
Different pistons to run the heads cooler.
Pinned in valve seats.

Motor has plenty of balls but the newer versions are supposed to be better engineered.

As I was scrolling down and noticed the engine, I knew it was yours before I scrolled your handle in view..
