Who else is running?
State Senator Dan Patrick?
Patrick blocked me on Facebook for some reason. lol.
Todd Staples for this Texan.
Dewcreep has got to go
One of the things that grinds my gears is that we still have an open primary in Texas. Why does the GOP let the Dems meddle in their primaries?

That is a very good question

About Todd
After strong encouragement from friends and supporters statewide, Todd Staples announced his intention to run for Lieutenant Governor in 2014 with Texas legend Nolan Ryan as his Statewide Chairman.
Staples is one of Texas youngest statewide Republican leaders. In addition to his current statewide post as Texas Commissioner of Agriculture, Staples has served as Mayor Pro Tem of his local city council, as a State Representative and as a Texas State Senator.
Consistently rated one of Texas top conservatives in the Texas legislature, Todd served as chair of the Republican Caucus, stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Governors Bush and Perry to pass record setting tax breaks, helped pass landmark lawsuit abuse reform, and sponsored and helped pass a state constitutional amendment defining marriage as being between one man and one woman.
As Commissioner of Agriculture, Staples fought the job-killing policies of Obamas EPA. Staples sued the Obama EPA numerous times in order to stop burdensome regulations that would eliminate thousands of Texas jobs.
Staples has also championed private property owner rights including passage of a 2009 state constitutional amendment protecting homeowners and landowners from eminent domain abuses. He created an online website petition - www.protectyourhomeandland.com- to promote passage of SB 18, eminent domain reform. Over 7,500 Texans have signed the petition and Governor Rick Perry signed the legislation into law.
Staples also challenged the Obama Administration to allocate adequate resources to secure the Texas border from the life-threatening dangers from drug dealers and human smugglers crossing Texas soil. While federal leaders repeatedly deny the threat and daily violence, Staples is documenting the dangers Texas farmers and ranchers face along the border. For his efforts, Todd has been recognized at the state and national level as an emerging national leader on protecting the Texas border.
A former rancher and businessman, Todd graduated with honors from Texas A&M with a degree in Agricultural Economics. Todd and his wife, Janet, have four children and three grandchildren. Palestine, Texas is their home, and Todd has served as deacon at his local church, Norwood Heights Baptist Church, for many years.

Marcella, you know Staples don't you? Any idea of his position on allowing open carry?

Todd Staples is my man. I know him, campaigned with him to be our state senator, he’s a true conservative with a horse and a gun. He speaks very well and can articulate his positions. If there is a debate between the candidates, he will shine. I’ve seen him on the campaign trail and he never stops, has great energy.
TEXAS STATE AGRICULTURE COMMISSIONER TODD STAPLES FOR TEXAS LT. GOVERNOR.

Good information here. Thanks.
Personally, I'm hoping Dewhurst doesn't make the 50% initial cut.

Agree.
It’s time for a change here.
He sounds awesome from the little I’ve read on this thread so far.
I had heard positive things about our current land commissioner but hadn’t connected his name to the title. Thanks for the info everyone!
One of the things that grinds my gears is that we still have an open primary in Texas. Why does the GOP let the Dems meddle in their primaries?
I whole heartily agree. I wish we had dem/rep separate primary votes. We’d surely get more Ted Cruzes. The folks here on FR are crazy saying we’ll soon be purple or blue. We are one of the few states that have a Republican Super Majority. Unless of course, if those from other states allow illegals to be legals and vote, then the game is over and CW2 is not too away in the future afterwards.
Texas Senator Dan Patrick, from the greater Houston area is running for Lt. Gvnr. He is my ONLY selection for this spot.
Dan Patrick is a great conservative. He is similar to Ted Cruz and he is very effective
Jane, you must be a RINO. Dan Patrick has never wavered and has been steadily moving the Texas legislature to the center and right whenever the opportunity comes up.
We have a MAJOR RINO as the Texas Republican House House leader, whom we must primary
I agree we have a HUGE RINO as Speaker, who needs to get *the boot*.
Dan Patrick disappointed me when he let the CommonCore/CScope pushers off too easily with "actions going forward" changes rather than shutting down this leftist group, altogether. He'd made good progress, then let them off too easily. Like he suddenly backed down, for some reason.
