I have used the type of relay you described for Internet. Worked out great. You mentioned Verizon but AT&T has this as well so basically I would suggest suggest calling first which ever cell phone company has the best signal strength at the location. You can get a similar relay to boost the cell phone signal for a local mobile hot spot as well.
